Hiroshi SHIRAI was born in Aichi Japan, in
1958. He received the BE and ME degrees in Electrical Engineering
from Shizuoka University, Japan, in 1980 and 1992, respectively,
and Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from Polytechnic University
(renamed now as Tandon School of Engineering, New York University),
Farmingdale, NY in 1986. He was a Research Fellow from 1982 to 1986,
and then a Postdoctoral Scientist until March 1987 in the Department
of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Polytechnic University.
Since April 1987, he has been with the Department of Electrical,
Electronic, and Communication Engineering, Chuo University, Tokyo
Japan, where he is currently a Professor of Chuo University.

He was
Director of the Korakuen IT Center (2007/4-2009/3),
Vice Director of Information Technology Center (2007/4-2009/3),
Director of Admissions Center (2009/4-2013/3),
Associate Dean of Science and Engineering (2013/4-2015/10),

He was on sabbatical leave and was a Visiting Professor at the Department
of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the University of British Columbia (UBC),
Vancouver, BC, Canada, from 1998-1999.
He was also a Visiting Scholar at Tandon School of Engineering,
New York University, NY USA from April to July 2017.

the Shinohara Memorial Young Investigators Award from the IEICE in 1988,
the Paper presentation Award from the Institute of Electrical Engineers (IEE) of Japan in 1991,
the IEICE Electronics Award from IEICE Electronics Society in 2019,
and the IEICE Best Paper Award from IEICE in 2020.
His current research interests are wave propagation and diffraction in time harmonic and transient domains.
Dr. Shirai is a Fellow of the IEICE, Electromagnetic Academy,
Japan Accreditation Board for Engineering Education (JABEE),
a Life Senior Member of the IEEE,
and a Member of Sigma Xi, the Institute of Electrical Engineers (IEE) of Japan.
