3. URSI Commission B International Electromagnetics Prize

URSI Commission B has established, with the approval of the URSI Board of Officers, the “International Electromagnetics Prize” to be awarded annually. The prize is US$10,000 plus a commemorative plaque and is sponsored by the Summa Foundation. It is awarded for an accurate approximate solution of a designated scattering or related problem in electromagnetics and is presented at an appropriate URSI meeting. The 2005 Prize Problem has been announced in February 2004, and entries in the specified format must be received before June 15, 2005. Entries will be judged by a panel appointed by the chair of URSI Commission B and the Summa Foundation. Factors taken into account in the judging will be the simplicity and elegance of the expressions, their conformity with the known physical properties of the solution, and their accuracy for all values of the parameters involved in the problem. All scientists are eligible for the prize apart from an officer or director of the Summa Foundation, a member of the panel, or one of their immediate working associates. 4. URSI Commission B Technical Advisory Board

Based on the discussion at the business meeting during the 2001 URSI International Symposium on Electromagnetic Theory held in Victoria, Canada in May 2001, URSI Commission B formed a work­ing group named the Commission B Technical Advisory Board (B-TAB) to promote various Commission B activities. The B-TAB will discuss the issues related to triennial Electromagnetic Theory Symposia as well as other additional conference activities in which Commission B is involved. Prof. M. Ando of Tokyo Institute of Technology, Commission B Chair, serves as Chair of B-TAB. Selection of the B-TAB members was completed and the B-TAB consists of 17 members as of January 2002, among whom Prof. M. Tateiba of Kyushu University and Prof. K. Kobayashi of Chuo University are members selected from Japan.

5. 2004 URSI International Symposium on Electromagnetic Theory

In a long tradition, Commission B, “Fields and Waves”, of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI) organizes a triennial series of International Symposia on Electromagnetic Theory. The next symposium in this series is the 2004 International Symposium on Electromagnetic Theory (URSI-B2004) to be held in Pisa, Italy, May 23-27, 2004. It is hosted by the Italian Member Committee of URSI and is organized by the Local Organizing Committee at the University of Pisa, in collaboration with the Italian Electromagnetic Society (SIEm). The scope of the Symposium covers all areas of electromagnetic theory and its applications. For the conference details, see the URSI-B2004 web page “http://www.ing.unipi.it/URSI-B2004”. There was an URSI-B2004 Technical Program Committee meeting on January 9-10, 2004 in Pisa, where decision on acceptance/rejection of all submitted papers has been made, and a tentative session program has been prepared.
